Jowls

Jowls

Jowls refer to the sagging or heavy skin that often appears on or below the jawline and lower cheek as you age. It is caused by loss of collagen and elastin in the skin resulting in loss of firmness and tightness: changes in bone structure, with resorption occurring naturally with age, and the descent of our fat pads due to gravity over the years.

Weight loss, smoking and genetics can be other influencing factors in the appearance of jowls. Treatments may involve Dermal Fillers in the cheeks, to restore lost volume. If you lift your cheeks, the jowls lift too. Fillers on the jawline may help, Botox in the neck muscles reduce the downward pull of our face, and Ultherapy, Morpheus and Forma can cause general tightening.
