Tixel is a specially designed treatment system which uses a hot titanium plate that achieves results similar to that of lasers without the pain or downtime. It is used to treat wrinkles, crepey skin, age spots, skin discolouration, open pores, acne and scarring. It is very useful for difficult to reach areas such as around the eyes.
The titanium plate has 81 tiny pyramids and delivers very precise thermal energy to the skin which removes excess skin, or pigment, resulting in skin tightening or skin resurfacing. The hot plate is presented to the skin for a fraction of a second, removing superficial problematic skin without damaging deeper tissues, and with very little discomfort.
- Ablation is effectively resurfacing, similar to a deep chemical peel or fractional CO2 laser.
- Open channel is similar to microneedling but more powerful. Small channels are created in the skin, making it porous, allowing the penetration of topical ingredients. The body then produces lots of extra collagen and elastin to repair the channels resulting in rejuvenation.
Very informative consultation explaining chosen procedure. I felt very confident after such an in-depth discussion with Dr Hill to go ahead with treatment.
Exceptionally professional. Even a consultation was a very pleasant experience. Dr. Hill has a vast knowledge of modern cosmetic procedures.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it painful?
It depends on the setting as to how uncomfortable Tixel can be, on the lower settings it is minimally uncomfortable and can be managed without any anaesthetic. On higher ablative settings, an anaesthetic cream is required, which makes the treatment tolerable.
How soon will I see a result?
Some people do see a benefit after 1 treatment, but it is more usual to have 3 treatments to make a significant difference.
How much downtime is there?
After the lower settings there can be no down time at all, maybe just looking a bit flushed for a few hours. The higher the settings the more likely you are to get side effects. Also, everyone’s response is different. On a high setting and if you are sensitive, you might get swelling and redness for 2-3days. We usually start on a lower setting and build up gradually depending on your response.
